Introduction
In this lesson, students will look at different types of music notation from around the world and from different periods in history. Students will discuss the purpose of musical notation and determine what types of information needs to be shown in musical notation in order for the composer’s intentions to be clear to the performers. They will practice matching 4 note melodies with simplified notation to show how the orientation on the staff affects the pitch.
