Introduction to Ascending and Descending Lines

Introduction
In this lesson, students connect changes in spoken language to melodic contour. Students will discover how certain effects in spoken language can be represented in music using ascending and descending lines. Students will listen to and discuss the sound and emotional impact of ascending and descending lines and create a class list of songs that features these musical terms.
